So is magic really real? Is there books on beginning magic? Cool magic spells to summon or dissapear objects? Please help

I loved The Secret Circle by L.J. Smith. What are other books about that? I'm tired of reading books about vampires, and I actually prefer reading about witches. So what do you recommend?

I've always wondered, where do magic words and phrases come from? I mean, magicians supposedly study and recite them, but where do they originate? I like to know EVERYTHING and so when authors leave this out it bugs me!
